Yamaha Rhino UTV Recall
According to a March 31, 2009 release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Yamaha is now offering free repairs for the Yamaha Rhino 450, 660 and 700 series models. The sale of said models is also being suspended until repaired. The CPSC conducted an investigation involving more than 50 individual incidents involving the Rhino 450, 660 and 700:
- More than two-thirds of these cases involved rollovers.
- Many of the accidents involved unbelted occupants.
- 46 of the incidents involved driver or passenger deaths involving the Rhino 450 and 660 in particular.
- Of the fatal rollover accidents and the hundreds of non-fatal accidents, the majority appeared to involve turns at low speeds and on level terrain.
- Approximately 120,000 Rhino 450 and 660 models are included in this recall and repair, and approximately 25,000 Rhino 700 series are included.
The repairs that Yamaha will provide include:
- Installation of a spacer on the rear wheels
- Removal of the rear anti-sway bar
- Installation of half doors
- Installation of passenger handholds
